The altar figures had flesh-tone faces, hands and feet, dark hair, beards and eyes, red lips and garments decorated with red-blue-green, and colourful attributes. Gold, silver and lustre was used abundantly, for instance on the dresses of the virtues and on the wings of the angels. A stigma was even painted on Christ’s pink body. His loincloth was apparently originally silver. The retable’s ornamentation was similarly coated with paint, gold and silver.
