The pulpit’s original location

It can be seen on Woltemate’s floorplan that the pulpit that was completed in 1686 was evidently placed at the location of the previous pulpit in Tallinn’s Cathedral adjacent to the first pillar closest to the altar on the church’s southern side (marked in blue on the plan). Almost all members of the congregation could see the pulpit at that location and hear the pastor. Some seats nevertheless remained behind the pulpit or the pillars that supported the church’s vaults: this problem beset all congregations that continued to hold their church services after the Reformation in multi-nave houses of worship that were built in the Middle Ages.

The pulpit was moved to its current location (marked in red on the plan) in 1724.
