Justice (VigalaAltar)

Faith (Fides), Hope (Spes) and Charity (Caritas) are theological and divine, in other words Christian, virtues. They derive from the words of Paul: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and charity. But the greatest of these is charity” (1 Cor. 13:13). Contrary to the prohibition on the ten vices (overeating, stealing, lying, etc.), no single specific code of conduct is connected to them. Faith, hope and charity are inseparable from the Christian attitude towards life. The three Christian virtues supplement the cardinal virtues adopted from ancient philosophy: Wisdom, Justice, Courage and Temperance.

In Christian iconography, the cross and the chalice with the consecrated bread are the attributes of Faith, an anchor and a bird are the attributes of Hope, and those of Charity are children and a heart.
