X-ray

X-rays are a type of invisible radiation which can be used to analyse aspects of a work of art which are not visible to the naked eye. X-rays are able to penetrate, and make visible, all the layers simultaneously, making it possible to “look through” art work.

With the help of X-rays, it is possible to see through wooden figures and other parts of the art work of interest, which makes possible to obtain further information on the methods of handicraft used in Christian Ackermann workshop and to look at the internal structure of different parts of the work of art.

In conducting roentgenographic examinations, we used the Estonian Tax and Customs Board’s portable X-ray apparatus.
